The International Commission on the Apostolate of Jesuit Education (ICAJE) responds with the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm: a strategy that unifies the principles of the Characteristics without adding subjects to already crowded programmes.
It draws on the Spiritual Exercises: not only information to transmit, but a path in which the pupil interiorly tastes what is studied, discerns its meaning and chooses to act.
The aim
Men and women for others
Academic excellence remains essential; it is not the final goal. Competence, conscience and compassion: leaders in service.
01
Integral growth
Intellect, affectivity, morals and faith: beyond the accumulation of knowledge and professional preparation alone.
02
Faith and justice
Transforming how we see ourselves, others and structures, with preferential attention to the poor and the marginalised.
03
Magis
The interiorised «more»: apostolic creativity, discernment and passion for the Kingdom, before proposing them to pupils.
The model
Five stages, one way of proceeding
At the centre: experience, reflection, action. Context and evaluation make the cycle complete and repeatable.
01
Context
The real world of the pupil and the atmosphere of the school. Cura personalis begins here.
02
Experience
Tasting interiorly: facts, imagination and affect. Without the heart, learning does not move to action.
03
Reflection
The pivot. Meaning and human implications, until conscience is formed.
04
Action
Love shows itself in deeds. From knowing to commitment, respecting freedom.
05
Evaluation
Beyond grades: growth as persons for others, signs of generosity and of magis.
The teacher
Accompany, do not impose
Ideals are reached in daily interaction. The teacher creates the conditions: a balance in equilibrium, not indoctrination.
Kolvenbach recalls that Ignatius places the teacher's personal example well above instruction alone. CeFAEGI insists on long pathways: practice, return and colleagues who learn together are needed.
